GLOBE RIDERS OFF TO A GOOD START WITH THE ASP’S NEW ONE WORLD RATING SYSTEM!!!
With the first event of the 2010 ASP World Tour upon us, three of Globe’s elite competitors are ready to bring the heat to Snapper and this one world rating system… Oh wait, it’s already begun!
Last year was a pretty sweet year for the Globe surf team. Damo and Ceej held down consistent performances throughout the year to finish up in the top 10. Taj Burrow (Globe footwear rider) made three quarterfinals, three semifinals, and had two final appearances–in addition to bettering Kelly Slater to win Pipeline Masters—finishing 4th overall.
Moving into the 2010 season, the Globe team is building momentum and will undoubtedly leave their mark on the new “one-world” ranking system. One must look no further than the last couple ASP results, with CJ Hobgood taking the 6* Prime in Brazil, as well as Taj taking the win at the 4* Breaka Burleigh Pro. This year promises to bring one of the most exciting ASP seasons on record–with a new crop of hungry rookies out to prove themselves in the new system: Owen Wright, Brett Simpson, Dusty Payne, and Pat Gudauska. These young rippers are all frothing to mix it up with seasoned tour vets. Also, the Top 45 will become the Top 32 after the fifth event of the season at Teahupo’o. Every wave in every heat will matter, as all the surfers will be under increased pressure to have a Top 32 seed by the halfway point in the season, or they will be forced back into the hungry pack of WQS’ers. It’ll be an intense battle, but things are looking solid for team Globe.
